Cheryl L. Becker

Cheryl focuses her practice on biotechnology-related intellectual property matters with a particular emphasis on diagnostics, immunology, genetics, and veterinary health. She has many years of experience with both U.S. and foreign patent prosecution, client counseling, and the preparation of freedom-to-operate, patentability, validity, and infringement opinions. She particularly enjoys working directly with inventors in the creation of commercially valuable patent portfolios. Specifically, she has personally drafted and prosecuted several hundred patent applications for issuance.

Prior to joining Wood Phillips, Cheryl retired from Abbott Laboratories where she was an in-house patent attorney for approximately 20 years and represented several divisions of the company. Prior to joining Abbott, Cheryl practiced law in several, large, prestigious intellectual property law firms in Washington, D.C. including Cushman, Darby and Cushman, and Sughrue, Mion, Zinn, Macpeak and Seas where she represented both domestic and foreign clients.

While in law school, Cheryl graded onto Case Western Reserve Law Review where she was first an associate and then a research editor. She also published a Note of first impression in law school relating to the legal implications of a specific genetic marker.

Cheryl is admitted to the Illinois and Pennsylvania bars. She is also admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
