Dan focuses his practice on intellectual property matters in the Life Sciences industry, with a particular emphasis on pharmaceutical products, dermatological products, diagnostic instrumentation and systems, clinical chemistry, and medical devices. Dan has extensive in-house and law firm experience with both U.S. and foreign patent preparation and prosecution, managing global patent portfolios, client counseling and education, preparing freedom-to-operate, patentability, validity and infringement opinions, and FDA Orange Book matters. He is also experienced with negotiating and drafting license agreements, research collaboration agreements, laboratory services agreements, confidentiality agreements, clinical trial agreements and consulting agreements.

Dan’s in-house experience includes Gilead Sciences, Abbott Laboratories, Eli Lilly and Company and Chugai Pharma USA, where he held leadership positions counseling senior executives regarding legal and commercial risks relating to intellectual property and closely collaborating with engineers and scientists for the establishment of robust patent portfolios for the protection of commercial products.

Prior to and during law school, Dan was a research assistant and technician in the Department of Microbiology and the Department of Dermatology at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago, where he supported research activities in the areas of virology and dermatological sciences.

Dan is admitted to the Illinois and Indiana Bars. He is also admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
